Allagash on tap at Oddfellows
We stopped by Oddfellows in the late afternoon on 7/28. Rare for us, we opted for a seat at the bar. We were lucky to find one of my favorite summer beers, an Allagash White Ale. This lemony pour is pretty to look at and easy on the palate. Highly recommended for summer days. The beer lineup was the following:
- Hofbrau Original Lager ($4.5): the Chicago Tribune calls it “the uncomplicated yet flavorful choice for all manner of outdoor cookouts”)
- Manny’s Pale Ale ($4.5): Miss Martin’s all-time favorite beer
- Stone IPA ($4.5): described by thefullpint.com as “crisp, dry and really hoppy”
- Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale ($4.5): The Hedonist Jive waxes rhapsodic, “Spicy, a little musty and highly carbonated, I left the bar wishing I had the fortitude and the liver to drink five pints in one sitting. It’s a glorious beer, with tastes of ginger and a light malty sweetness topping off a distant dose of funk.”
- Fuller’s Porter ($4.5): Bob’s best porter to date (11/09)
- Seasonal Selection (Olympia $2.5): no longer a local brew as of 2003 & is also owned by SAB Miller but referenced in many iconic movies including The Graduate
- Allagash White Ale ($4.5): a summer favorite and a Top 10 Belgian Witbier in the 2009 U.S. Open Beer Championship
- Abbey Leffe (10 oz for $5): owned by InBev – a blonde Belgian ale that according to its corporate owner “as a draft beer it is thirst quenching”
